Welcome!
The Sheridan-Kalorama Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC 1-D) formally
welcomes you to its web site! The Sheridan-Kalorama ANC is the elected body
representing the residents of the Sheridan-Kalorama neighborhood of Washington,
DC.
The Sheridan-Kalorama neighborhood, which hosts the bulk of the capital's embassies,
is located in the northwest sector of the city with Rock Creek Park to its west and
north and Connecticut and Florida Avenues to its east and south, respectively. When
entering the historic city center from the north, it is Sheridan-Kalorama and the
lion-adorned Taft Bridge spanning Rock Creek Park that greet visitors, politicians,
foreign dignitaries, and residents alike with the grand vistas that make Washington
and this neighborhood truly unique. In fact, "Kalorama" is from the
Greek for "beautiful views." The neighborhood obtained the
"Sheridan" in its name from Sheridan Circle, which -- along with the
magnificent Massachusetts Avenue (aka Embassy Row) -- flanks the western Rock
Creek Park boundary. Adjoining neighborhoods, which provide easy access to restaurants
and other commercial activities include: Adams Morgan, Dupont
Circle, Georgetown, Kalorama Triangle, the West End and Woodley
Park.
These pages provide residents with information on the ANC, its Commissioners, ANC and
neighborhood projects, city services, neighborhood associations, and ANC meeting dates,
times, agenda, and venues. Along with the main DCnet.com pages covering adjoining
neighborhoods and commercial activities, these pages are intended to serve as a central
community resource for the residents of Sheridan-Kalaroma. Consequently, your
comments are most welcome!
